Giving Life to the Material
A Masterclass with Tito Lorefice · Led by: Tito Lorefice
On April 6–7, 2024, Bu Production proudly hosted an intensive puppet workshop titled "Giving Life to the Material" at Alan Kadıköy. Led by the world-renowned Argentine puppeteer and Vice President of UNIMA International, Tito Lorefice, this 8-hour programme offered a profound deep dive into the art of puppetry and object theatre.
The core objective of the workshop was to deepen the skill of interpretation through objects and to master the illusion of life. Spread over two days, the work centred on the puppeteer's ability to project body, mind and energy onto the object through the hands — and on the puppet's capacity to think, feel and develop character like a living being.
Day 1 · From Movement to Animation
Exploring the puppeteer's physical and mental relationship with the object, focusing on the projection of energy and the use of silence in movement.
Day 2 · Signs of Life
An intellectual study of puppet psychology — character development through impulses, weight, balance, and action-reaction exercises in dramatic situations.
Giving Life to the Material
Deepening the skill of interpretation through objects and mastering the illusion of life; a deep dive into the most rooted techniques of puppet and object theatre.

Tito Lorefice directs the puppet and object theatre department at the Instituto Artístico Mauricio Kagel, Universidad Nacional de San Martín. For the last 24 years, he has worked as a puppeteer, actor, musician and stage director with the Teatro San Martín Marionettes Group in Buenos Aires. Since 2012 he has been a member of the UNIMA International Executive Committee (as Vice President) and is the current chair of the Professional Education Commission and the Three Americas Commission, as well as the secretary general of UNIMA Argentina.
